Which top shape to choose
The top can be made round, square, rectangular, or oval, to fit the dimensions of the base it will sit on.
The shape is first decided based on the existing base and its use: a round or oval top allows for better circulation around a dining table, while a rectangular top is more suited for a desk or worktop.
The choice of edge
Three edge profiles are possible.
The rounded edge softens the silhouette and reduces sharp corners.
The straight edge maintains a more sober and architectural look.
The tapered edge features the beveled edge made famous by Saarinen's Tulip tables: the edge of the top thins out towards the exterior, which visually lightens the mass of the marble without reducing its actual thickness. It's a technical detail, but it significantly changes the perception of the top once installed.
Polished, matte, or polyester varnish
Marble can be finished with a polished glossy finish, which accentuates the depth of the veins and the reflection of light, or with a matte polished finish, which is duller and less prone to fingerprints.
A polyester varnish option, glossy or matte, can be added on top: it seals the natural porosity of the stone and improves stain resistance.
Which marble to choose
Several marbles and marble-like stones, guaranteed from Italy, are available for these custom-made tops.
- Carrara is the white marble with fine grey veins, the most recognizable of Italian marbles and a safe base for a sober interior.
- Statuary is a denser white, with more pronounced and contrasting veins: a more assertive look than Carrara, for a generally higher budget.
- Emperador displays brown hues, from chocolate to beige, veined with white: a warmer marble that pairs well with solid wood.
- Calacata Oro is distinguished by golden veins on a white background, a marble that requires little accompaniment to be noticed.
- Stardust is a darker stone, with a speckled effect, which moves away from classic veined marble for a more contemporary look.
- Travertine, less uniform and more matte by nature, offers a more rustic texture than polished marbles.
Each marble has its own grain and porosity, which directly influences the choice of finish: a polished glossy Calacata Oro reflects light differently than a matte travertine, for example.
Thickness, fastening, and delivery
The tops are manufactured with a thickness of 2 to 3 cm. Upon request and based on a provided plan, screw holes for fastening are made for a clean assembly on the base.
Each top is shipped in a wooden crate for maximum protection during transport, with delivery and installation provided in Paris and the Île-de-France region.
